KiSSFLOW by Orangescape is a disruptive cloud-based SaaS platform for business process & workflow automation. As a recognized SAAS player in workflow automation space, Kissflow is now embarking on a much larger $10 billion market opportunity with a new version that will offer end-to-end collaboration solutions for the digital workplace.
We interviewed Dinesh Varadharajan, VP Product Management at Orangescape, to know more about the product, key business problems it solves, and how Kissflow is helping businesses.
What are the key problems you solve for today’s businesses?
Dinesh: Business processes are getting siloed between various software systems that an organization uses. Teamwork in itself is turning out to be a healthy combination of coordination, collaboration, and control. The nature of tasks is changing from predominantly routine and information-driven to de-routinized and knowledge-driven. Think of a use case where sales activities of processes don’t end within the purview of a Sales automation system such as CRM. Sales Head would need a way to further automate plenty of tasks on her own for the benefit of the Sales organization.
Who are your ideal customers and why they do need Kissflow? Whom do you pitch in any organization?
Dinesh: Small and Medium Sized Enterprises (SMEs) need automation for their core processes in a cost-effective way. And Large organizations need a platform to automate their long tail processes that are not solved by out of the box ERP / CRM solutions. Founders/CEO’s are the ideal target for KiSSFLOW in SMEs as they want to transform the way their businesses are run. In big enterprises, we target department heads or senior managers who want to automate their long-tail use cases.
With whom does Kissflow compete in the market? How is it different or unique from others?
Dinesh: KiSSFLOW competes with BPM tools like Pegasystems, Appian
Who are your product users? What are the different usecases of KiSSFLOW?
Dinesh: Functional Heads of Finance and HR feel a need to quickly and rapidly automate their processes. As an HR person, you can think of processes such as Leave / Vacation Request, Employee Onboarding, Resignation or Appraisal. And if you are from Finance and procurement function, you would be surely dealing with any of the processes such as Purchase Order Approval, Purchase Request, Budget Approval, Travel Request.
As functional head, you would want these processes to be nimble and readily changeable as per your changing needs over time. And you would find the self-service, no-code approach to be quite valuable as you can yourself automate and run your processes without having to wait for IT.
Any winning case studies you would like to highlight?
Dinesh: Olympus ES transitioned many of their processes from legacy systems to KiSSFLOW, including purchasing processes, RMAs, demo requests, and offering discounts. The ability to add attachments to any item, reassign tasks midstream, and modify data were the big selling points for Olympus ES. In addition to greatly increased speed, the processes got more organized.
Another case study I would like mention is Vietnammobile (VNM) who started to automate a handful of processes such as new customer application approval, mobile plan upgrade/downgrade, service cancellation, etc. The teams at VNM saw drastic improvements in their processing speed and overall efficiency. The company saved a lot of money as a result of adopting KiSSFLOW into their everyday affairs. VNM teams were also happy to have their hands off the software maintenance issues since a cloud-based product like KiSSFLOW takes care of data security and version upgrading concerns in the backend without bothering its customer.

What have been your top product or growth challenges lately? And how are you managing that?
Dinesh: KiSSFLOW is solving business processes use-cases quite eloquently so far. The challenge is to move beyond these use-cases and to solve all the problems that are related to work. KiSSFLOW is one among the hundreds of tools that exist inside any organization and the challenge is to integrate or replace those tools and make KiSSFLOW the one product that solves most of the work problems.
Over the last year, the whole organization is pivoted around the next version of the product that expands the capability of the product to solve most of the problems related to work. An announcement is due soon.
